Hi.

Welcome! I teach basic needle felting techniques, write fiber processing guides, provide tutorials, and blog about whatever comes to mind (including homeschooling my two kids and my life in general). Oh, and I make things too!

Silk Patchwork Pillowcase

I wasn’t quite sure how it would turn out, if it turned out at all. It was an idea, because I have a lot of reclaimed silk, and I like using silk pillowcases. Not for any sort of desires for luxury, though I do have a particular taste. I like nice things, but from an artisanal perspective.

After all, that is why I learn to make things as much as I can. I have never been the type to go for country folk or pop crafts, but artisanal items, the kinds that you find in antique flea markets and in the marketplaces of the world. The kind that take a lifetime of adventures and a keen eye to curate.

I have fine, curly hair that tends towards frizzy if you look at it the wrong way. I also don’t have the patience to go through an entire curly routine that is so involved, it is pretty much a lifestyle. I admire those who put in that kind of work for their tresses. I just do what I can, picking out products that don't destroy my hair, air drying, and sleeping on silk pillowcases to reduce chances of frizz the next morning. My sheets are linen - my kind of luxury.

I am nearly done with the first - I have two I need to make (after all, my husband deserves a lovingly handmade matching one). I switched to basting the pieces on, which I've been doing while binge watching Waldemar Januszczak on Perspective. I learned (according to wikipedia) that his father was a policeman in Sanok prior to WW2 - which is my mother's hometown. It isn’t a big town at all, so I am curious if our families knew each other. He has a real gift for teaching art history that makes it exciting. I'm curious if he ever wondered if his parents knew the parents of Zdzisław Beksiński, a famous artist that also came from Sanok. Maybe he even got to meet him before his untimely death. If he ever talked about it, I haven't gotten to that episode yet.

Tomorrow I should hopefully have the first one done. Here is a sneak peek.
