Hi.

Welcome! I teach basic needle felting techniques, write fiber processing guides, provide tutorials, and blog about whatever comes to mind (including homeschooling my two kids and my life in general). Oh, and I make things too!

First ShOrt

I know, the title resembles the name of the youtube knockoff of instagram knock off of tiktok, but short orts, so sh-orts. There is no alternative.

Part of why I am doing this is to get in the habit of posting here daily. I need to get back into thr habit of blogging in general. I gave up social media over a year ago. My blogs tend to be wordy. So this is inbetween the two, like a social media on my blog? It also helps me get used to posting from the app on my phone.

Today was the first official day of homeschool for the next year, as I submitted all the paperwork yesterday and today is the earliest we can start. We arent heavy on the work yet, but it allows me to log anything they do that counts.

Last few weeks were a crunch. I managed to get a few posts out in June, but then I had to collect things for our evals (two kids this year) as well as paperwork for next year. Now, I can breathe.

So, here is a quick little project. I have these old pillow cases for my old Euro pillows (giant, square, down-filled things probably as old as I am). I washed the pillows, and decided I want “new” pillow cases. I don’t want to buy them though, and these are usable, just old and stained despite soaking in Biz.

I decided to patchwork over top of them with these old sarees. I ordered them from India years ago. They are just as old and stained, some have tears, but silk is silk. Here's a start. I wanted to keep the gold detailing at the edge where I will add buttonholes. This has a flap closure but that isnt enough for me. Reminds me a bit of “crazy quilts” that were popular in the victorian era using scraps of silk fabrics. I am not sure I will embroider them, but that’s the cool thing about projects like these… you can always add on later.
