Sapphire - Chapter 2

A few days after the event in Nina’s room, Crystal’s family took a winter vacation for one week in Wolfton, a town with a gorgeous but dangerous nature park a couple miles away from Canine City.

Nina stood outside the woods of Wolfton and stared at the fence gate. It was almost midnight, when the rest of the pack was sleeping in their tent at the campground which was back at the library where Mom would try to learn how to make s’mores from Dad. Earlier in the day, Mom said to Dad “I wish I knew how to cook stuff like you.” Now, Nina pushed her boots through the thick snow and walked through the big lake-sized puddle of mud. She looked closer at the gate. It was made of wood and it was a shape like a square with a letter A in the middle. She heard an eerie sound behind her.

“Holy cow!” she exclaimed. The red slimy creatures hissed. Crystal watched Nina from a distance. “Cookiecutter Creatures,” she thought. The Cookiecutter Creatures bit the shape of the wooden fence gate into Nina’s cheek and made her eyes red and made her fur darker. Her claws became sharper and she crawled back to camp. Crystal hid in the corner of the tent, and wrote about the creatures in her journal. She watched her sister groan and curl up on the snow. Crystal examined her while she was sleeping. “Red eyes, sharp claws, dark fur,” she whispered and wrote in her journal. Crystal was done writing at one o’clock in the morning. She edited the words and cleaned the page. She was going to show it to everyone after she finished, like with her other journals. This is her 5th journal. When she was done she became bored and opened up a video game on her laptop.

“Hey, Arachnia,” Crystal whispered to Arachnia, who had secretly come along on the trip.

“What…” the tarantula replied.

“Do you want to play on my game?” Crystal asked.

“Huh… Oh! Yes!” Arachnia replied, still half asleep.

Crystal slowly fell asleep while Arachnia was building the best house ever in the game and telling her new wolf friend how cool her town is going to look.
