Welcome! I teach basic needle felting techniques, write fiber processing guides, provide tutorials, and blog about whatever comes to mind (including homeschooling my two kids and my life in general). Oh, and I make things too!
Florida Jelly by Magi Kern (May 2019)
Florida Jelly art piece created using mixed fiber art techniques with artist’s own dyed and processed wool from raw Florida Cracker fleece, project originally part of the SE2SE project by the Livestock Conservancy. Locks dyed and wet felted for the background without carding first to create a lacey, tattered effect as if washed up on the beach. The jelly’s cap is needle felted, with raw, undyed locks directly underneath. Some locks were dyed and spun into art yarns of various thicknesses using various spinning techniques to create the jelly’s oral arms and tentacles. Florida Cracker is a rare, critically endangered heritage breed of the United States.
