Welcome! I teach basic needle felting techniques, write fiber processing guides, provide tutorials, and blog about whatever comes to mind (including homeschooling my two kids and my life in general). Oh, and I make things too!
Coral Coat by Magi Kern (June 2019)
Cropped completed Coral Coast art.
Coral Coast is a needle felted relief art piece that utilized several fiber art techniques. The piece is made entirely from the fleece of the Gulf Coast Native sheep, a critically endangered American heritage breed, as part of Livestock Conservancy’s SE2SE program. Magi used multiple techniques for the purpose of exploring the breed’s fleece for fiber arts, including how well it takes dye, wet felts, dry felts (also known as needle felting) and spins into yarn, as well as featuring the structure of the lock in the coral design. The spun yarn was needle felted onto the piece as a textural element.
