Hi.

Welcome! I teach basic needle felting techniques, write fiber processing guides, provide tutorials, and blog about whatever comes to mind (including homeschooling my two kids and my life in general). Oh, and I make things too!

Rest Day

I had made plans to spend the week getting things cleaned up, only to wake up incredibly tired and one of my eyes bothering me. A sort of stinging, burning sensation. I do get my eyes checked, nothing ever comes up, but nonetheless this happens on occasion. It’s actually why I stopped wearing contacts a few years ago, because I thought maybe they were causing a problem. Luckily everything is fine as of the time that I am writing and posting this.

Needless to say, change of plans. I spent the morning playing Dorfromantik, a cute puzzle game that is a bit more challenging than it appears. If you have ever played Planet from Blue Orange games (it's a board game) it is a bit like that, without the animals. You essentially build out a map using hexagonal tiles and lining up “biomes” to complete quests before you run out of tiles. This was interrupted with a few naps to rest my eyes and my tired self. The kids of course kept themselves occupied with their own activities in the same room, and were unusually quiet, which I appreciated.

Later on, I switched to crocheting up the remainder of the kitchen towels I had started on end of last year while watching documentaries. I can pop in later and provide links to all the things. Linking isn't something I figured out how to do on the phone app.

I really wanted to have matching (and color coordinated) towels for my kitchen, instead of the mishmash of ones we collected over the years. These hand towels have crocheted loops so they stay on the oven handle, and the high quality dish towels have stripes in matching colors.

I made the hand towels using turkish towels (love them), cutting them in half because they are incredibly long, closing the seam on the sewing machine, and using cotton yarn that matched the color scheme close enough (which I already had) for the tops. It’s a nice juxtaposition of something slightly more modern in design with very traditional in house-craftery concept.

I am also throwing this in here, some lighthearted art I was making last night while listening to an update on Ukraine. (Are you still following it?) Don't get me wrong, I am taking it seriously of course, but it helps me to pay attention if I am doodling. I can't not take it seriously… as someone who is Polish, it hits close to home. It seems most others in the US have moved on, unfortunately.

This guy is based off a piece of driftwood or an old dried root. Not sure what it is. I may do the entire sketchbook with various creatures one might spot while looking at it.

Side note: I think I am going to aim for updates earlier in the day. Posting at the end is easy to forget.
