Rock Cairns
While on our trip to Bushkill Falls yesterday, we came across a field of rock cairns.
This is a privately owned park - I am aware that in most cases, the idea of building random rock cairns is frowned upon by some people. I don’t know if it's a huge deal as people make it out to be, since trails aren't marked by cairns in most places, but trail markers on trees. Also, as far as the leave no trace thing - the rocks have been rearranged. Leave no trace is about not leaving trash, not marking into trees, not leaving graffiti. Leave nature as nature. I dont consider rearranging rocks found onsite into balanced piles the same - humans should engage with nature. It makes me happy to see people engaging with nature, not just passing through it. Someone left a trace by marking trails and creating paths after all. Maybe someone can give me a better reason why, but those two arguments fall flat for me.
Anyway, I have been thinking about getting into more illustrative work in addition to my usual. I would love to reach a point where I can license art to others. It also has me thinking about other things to do to move myself forward in a creative career.
For now, here are some watercolor rock cairns for you.
